8TURN has returned with their second mini album ‘UNCHARTED DRIFT’, their first comeback since their debut on January 30, 2023. Under MNH Entertainment, 8TURN consists of members Myungho, Jaeyun, Minho, Yoonsung, Haemin, Kyungmin, Yungyu, and Seungheon. The album highlights “EXCEL” as their lead single, tied together with four additional tracks that explore various genres. This album is definitely one to make your head turn in excitement.
UNCHARTED DRIFT
Standing as the introduction to the album, “WORLD” gives the audience a futuristic alternative sound, letting us see into the new world they’ve entered. Its spoken-word section lets us picture the world around them. Where rules can be broken and reality is distorted, the beginning of the expansion in the 8TURN storyline is released.
After being introduced to this new world, the title track “EXCEL” shows their decision to explore this new reality and to live with no regrets, following their dreams no matter what and working hard 24/7. The carefreeness of the track heavily shows within its music video, bright futuristic colors explore the screen while the members do big things and excel through the night. Its rock sound ties the song together, making it a big explosion of energy with a positive message.
The EP’s third track is titled “WALK IT OUT,” A hip-pop track that expresses the message of exploring this world, switching off the bright screens that surround everyone daily. Its catchy chorus and upbeat sound make the song one that can be replayed all day.
“SKETCH” offers us a new genre, sliding into a more R&B feel, letting the emotions of love fill the air. Lyrics like “I wanna be your everything” let us into the emotions expressed through this song, making it an all-around heartfelt & heartwarming listen.
The EP concludes with track number five “ING.” Providing us with a pop/gospel sound, the song is a message to their fanbase TURNING. They call out to TURNING, expressing their want to continue this beautiful journey with them for a long time.
