Another mystery-comedy is on the horizon for South Korean film enthusiasts, and it’s coming on Aug.13. Starring Girls’ Generation’s Lim Yoon-a and Ahn Bo-hyun, Pretty Crazy is the latest addition to their exceptional discography.

This August-slated original film is written and directed by Lee Sang-geun, best remembered for his 2019 disaster-comedy Exit. Coincidentally, Yoon-a also took on a lead role in the blockbuster movie alongside Jo Jung-suk, who’s currently promoting My Daughter is a Zombie. With the release of these interesting titles, we expect moviegoers to have a jam-packed schedule this season.
Pretty Crazy vows to deliver a creative twist to the supernatural genre by injecting humor and a character-driven storyline into the film. In a press conference prior to its release, director Lee Sang-geun explained his desire to delve into the complex nature of his characters. His remark furthers our curiosity about the movie, especially with such a strong main cast.
What to Expect in Pretty Crazy
Pretty Crazy follows the unconventional relationship of Gil-gu (Ahn Bo-hyun) and Sun-ji (Lim Yoon-a). After quitting his office job, Gil-gu finds himself spending his days with nothing to do. His mundane days are put to an end when he meets his neighbor Sun-ji. She’s sweet and pretty, and he’s absolutely smitten. However, one random night, he encounters her again and immediately notices something amiss—she’s an entirely different person!
Gil-gu later learns from Sun-ji’s father (Sung Dong-il) that she gets possessed by a demon for three hours every midnight because of a curse. She turns loud, stubborn, and extremely unhinged; all qualities far from her usual self. To make matters worse, she forgets everything that happens after it’s over.
As one of the few people who know her situation, her father entrusts Gil-gu to be her “part-time caretaker” to keep her from harm (or, more so, from causing it). This becomes the start of their chaotic dynamic and Gil-gu’s struggles as he attempts to free her from the curse.
The Cast and Characters of Pretty Crazy
The plot isn’t the only “crazy” thing about this film! Our main ensemble is led by top stars Lim Yoon-a and Ahn Bo-hyun, who are doing amazingly well in their respective careers. Fresh from his drama Flex x Cop (2024), Bo-hyun confidently welcomes the year with a new film under his belt. The same goes with Yoon-a, who’s returning to the big screens for the first time since Confidential Assignment 2: International (2022).
Next is Sung Dong-il, a well-respected senior actor who you’re most definitely familiar with already if you’re an avid K-drama fan. From Reply 1988 (2015) to The Art of Negotiation (2025), he’s a real scene-stealer no matter the role. And last but not least, we have rising star Joo Hyun-young, who began her acting career with a breakout role in Extraordinary Attorney Woo (2022). Now, she’s accomplishing another impressive milestone by making her film debut through Pretty Crazy.
Gil-gu as Ahn Bo-hyun

Ahn Bo-hyun stars as Gil-gu, freshly unemployed and reluctantly ready for a new job. He meets Sun-ji and immediately becomes captivated by her kindness and calm nature, but this first impression won’t last for too long.
After a chance encounter with her at night, he’s quickly pulled into a series of mind-boggling events — including being her demon self’s part-time caretaker. Despite his initial hesitance, he commits to the job. The more he gets to know both versions of her, the more determined he becomes to separate Sun-ji and the demon for good.
Lim Yoon-a as Sun-ji

Playing a dual role, we have Lim Yoon-a as Sun-ji. By day, she’s a kind and soft-spoken person who runs a bakery with her cousin. But by night, she unknowingly becomes possessed by an eccentric demon.
As a demon, she’s a gigantic ball of energy who never says no to a good time. From running down the street to diving into rivers, she’s not afraid of causing public disturbances as long as she gets what she wants. However, as with everybody else, there’s more to the demon than meets the eye.
Sung Dong-il as Jang-su and Joo Hyun-young as A-ra

To complete the cast, we have Sung Dong-il and Joo Hyun-young playing Sun-ji’s family members. Before Gil-gu came into the picture, they were the only ones who knew of Sun-ji’s curse. Unfortunately, this also meant they were the ones who had to take care of her during her nightly transformations.
Jang-su (Sung Dong-il) is Sun-ji’s loving father who’s been caring for his demon-possessed daughter since the beginning. When Gil-gu discovers their secret, he asks for his help to look after her. Meanwhile, A-ra (Joo Hyun-young) is Sun-ji’s cousin and co-worker, who’s also in the same boat as her uncle. Her witty humor and bold attitude make her a dependable bridge for Gil-gu and Sun-ji, as they grow closer with one another.
