BABYMONSTER turns up the heat on July 1 with their sizzling digital single, “HOT SAUCE”. Following the success of their full-length album ‘DRIP’ last November, the group delivers a playful blast from the past with a new twist. Known for their confident attitude and sharp performance skills, the rookie group jumps into 80s old-school hip-hop, injecting the retro genre with their signature energy and Gen Z charm.

Produced by PK and DEE.P and written by Lauren Aquilina, Lisa Pac, and Max Walch, the track is a brassy, synth bass-heavy dance anthem. BABYMONSTER compares cheeky confidence to the fiery kick of spicy food, with witty lyrics that reflect their playful humor and charisma. Sung entirely in English again, the track bounces between rhythmic rap verses and a catchy, addictive hook.
In the first verse, Asa recaptures the nostalgic influence of Salt-N-Pepa as she declares their intent to light up the stage. The song draws from a late-80s hip-hop groove, balancing upbeat fun with a rhythmic punch. This sound echoes the music YG Entertainment’s founder grew up with and wanted BABYMONSTER, who are teenagers, to reinterpret the 80s throwback hip-hop in their own style.
The music video leans heavily into retro inspiration. It features bright, 2D graffiti-style sets reminiscent of DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince’s 1988 hit “Parents Just Don’t Understand”. Similarly, the colourful aesthetic adds another layer of personality to an already spirited track. Fans also compare it to Crayon Pop’s viral quirkiness in “Bar Bar Bar”.
While “Hot Sauce” explores a new genre for the group, the transition feels natural. The production is simple but effective, and the energy is undeniably infectious. As YG himself put it, the team wanted to create a fun, upbeat song that could serve as a gift for fans this summer.
What’s Next for BABYMONSTER
The release of “Hot Sauce” records only the beginning of BABYMONSTER’s comeback rollout. A second pre-release single is scheduled for September, followed by a mini-album in October. With each new track, the group continues to expand their musical identity and surprise fans with fresh sounds and daring concepts. If “Hot Sauce” is any indication of what’s to come, the upcoming months promise to be explosive for BABYMONSTER.
