BOYNEXTDOOR, made up of Jaehyun, Sungho, Riwoo, Taesan, Leehan, and Woonhak, are back with their fourth EP ‘No Genre.’ The EP, a fearless expression of individuality, underscores what the group is most known for- musical freedom and creative self expression. Rather than conforming to trends and expectations, ‘No Genre’ embraces the groups unpredictability, capturing youth as something wild, authentic, and all their own.
Members Jaehyun, Taesan, and Woonhak once again play key roles in the production of the tracks, contributing to the seven songs across the EP. Their hands-on involvement results in music that feels, not only polished, but deeply personal, delivered with unfiltered honesty.
“123-78”
The EP takes ONEDOOR on a journey through the emotional rollercoaster of love and its aftereffects. It opens with “123-78,” a nostalgic pop track that sets the tone as a reflection of love. The romantic atmosphere of the song captures a sense of strong emotions, allowing listeners to get lost in its dreamy melody easily. “Step By Step” carries a nostalgic city-pop vibe that reflects the warmth of summer and the longing to hold onto the moment. The track highlights the group’s vocals in a mature but lighthearted pop style that is a new sound for them, but feels uniquely “BOYNEXTDOOR.” Its breezy sound makes it one of the EP’s most refreshing songs, perfectly capturing the change of seasons and the desire to pause time. “IS THAT TRUE?”
The mood shifts with “Is That True?”, a playful, funk-driven track exploring jealousy with the playful charm BOYNEXTDOOR are most known for. Although the song reflects feelings of jealousy, the depiction is cute and youthful, showing the complex yet almost childish emotions that follow a breakup. “IF I SAY, I LOVE YOU”
“IF I SAY, I LOVE YOU,” a song already known as one of BOYNEXTDOOR’s top hits, pairs self-deprecating lyrics with an upbeat band sound, turning heartbreak into something honest and refreshing. The catchy, upbeat rhythm is a total 180 to dramatics and sadness associated with breakup songs. The song expresses emotions of desperation and helplessness, yet is paired with a music video featuring shining smiles and cute actions guaranteed to cheer anyone up.
“I FEEL GOOD”
Standing at the center of the tracklist is the lead single, “I Feel Good.” The song stands out as liberating and full of self-confidence. Unlike the rest of the EP, which presents love in a very emotional way, “I Feel Good” delivers a clear message: BOYNEXTDOOR are choosing their course.
