Mark Tuan has finally dropped his eagerly awaited second EP, ‘Silhouette’, on Nov. 7. The project, which he has been preparing since the beginning of the year, reveals his genuine self and reflects his evolution as a solo artist and performer. Blending alternative rock and pop with personal storytelling, the release serves as a turning point in his career to uncover who he is as “Solo Mark” outside of GOT7.
Honing his Solo Sound
After years of shaping his musical identity through ‘The Other Side’ (2022) and ‘Fallin” (2023), Mark sharpens his solo sound with ‘Silhouette,’ an intimate and cinematic project that threads emotional depth together with performance-driven ambition. The five-track EP includes previously released singles “High As You” and “Hold Still” alongside three new songs that reflect different shades of his artistry.
The title track, “Sunsets and Cigarettes,” delivers a nostalgic alternative rock sound about the bittersweet weight of love that slowly slips away — like chasing a sunset or watching smoke vanish into the air. The EP title, ‘Silhouette,’ actually comes from the song’s lyrics. It represents the version of himself he is piecing together, both the artist he has been and the one he is moving toward. In a recent interview with Forbes, he described the project as a personal silhouette of himself, a preview of the musical direction he hopes to explore further. He has also shared that he is gravitating toward an indie-leaning, rock-inspired, alternative-pop sound, reflecting the music he normally enjoys. His goal is to create songs that feel easy to listen to, fit comfortably into our playlists, and invite repeat listens.
This idea of authenticity extends into the physical album packaging as well, which acts as a visual diary of his thoughts. His handwritten notes and lyric sketches offer fans a closer look into his creative process, turning the album into something meant to be kept and revisited.
Among the new tracks, “Pretty Little Picture” is a tender serenade dedicated to his fans, a moment that frames them as an image he carries in his heart. Meanwhile, “AUTOPILOT” is an outro track that hints at the road ahead in his musical journey.
Returning to his K-pop Roots
While previous albums peeled away his perfect idol image and avoided major choreography, ‘Silhouette’ allows Mark to reconnect with his K-pop roots through expressive performances. Across the EP, he introduces the sounds he grew up with, which are a mix of alternative rock, pop, and indie influences shaped by years of experimentation. Early in his solo career, he explored many genres to find his voice, but those experiences, along with his love for rock music, have helped him grow into an artist capable of adapting across styles.
That growth extends to his performances as well. The sensual R&B track “High As You” highlights his confidence through skillful choreography and mature lyricism, while “Hold Still” channels the energy fans remember from his GOT7 days. For ‘Silhouette,’ Mark focused on creating songs that not only sound good but also translate powerfully on stage. After his last tour, he felt there was more he wanted to show as a performer, leading him to design this EP as a way to dance, express and reconnect with that part of himself.
Finding Confidence and Creative Balance
Working closely with Transparent Arts, the team behind his solo ventures, Mark crafted this project as a bridge between past and future. The EP doesn’t just reflect his sound; it reflects his self-assurance. Being a soloist made him realize he could do more than just rap. Likewise, singing helped him build confidence, making him stronger for when GOT7 reunites and allowing him to bring even more to the group.
A Personal Connection with Fans
Mark continues to strengthen his bond with fans through Re:Mark, his rebranded fan community that shares glimpses of his everyday life, from moments abroad to time with his pets. It reflects his desire to be authentic both on and off stage, showing fans a more natural and personal side of himself.
Mark’s sincerity and dedication have earned him growing recognition, including his recent win as “Popular Artist of the Year” at the 2025 Weibo Awards. With fan signings in multiple cities, a new album in the works, and a future tour planned, ‘Silhouette’ serves as both a reflection and a promise, a calm before the next wave of creativity.
Through ‘Silhouette,’ Mark embraces where his music is heading and looks forward to performing it live once again. While he considers himself still in the early stages of his solo career, this EP marks a confident step toward the artist he wants to become.
