Stray Kids, hailed as “K-pop champions”, returned on Aug. 22 with their fourth full-length album ‘Karma’ and its title track “Ceremony”. This release arrives as their first studio album in two years since ‘5-STAR’ in June 2023, and it comes only weeks after wrapping up their largest world tour to date. The eight-member group once again prove their unmatched creative control, with the producing trio 3RACHA (Bang Chan, Changbin and Han) directly writing and producing all eleven tracks.
Since their 2018 debut with “District 9”, Stray Kids have built a reputation for defining their own sound by actively participating in every release. With ‘Karma’, they reinterpret the theme of “fate” or “destiny” not as something predetermined but as something shaped through choices, struggles and perseverance. In ‘Karma’, Stray Kids express the philosophy of carving out their own path despite outside judgment and inner conflict, transforming challenges into a story of growth told across diverse genres.
This project was described as the fruit of Stray Kids’ shared journey with STAY, where years of effort and achievements come back as positive karma. While global records and chart milestones continue to follow them – six consecutive No. 1 albums on the Billboard 200 since 2022 – the members emphasize that their true focus remains on creating meaningful music and elevating their performances.

“삐처리 (BLEEP)”
A cinematic hip-hop track with boom bap rhythms, “BLEEP” blocks out negativity and charges ahead confidently toward growth. The song’s grand beat and addictive call-and-response hook embody the message of ignoring criticism and interference, and overcoming obstacles.
“CEREMONY”
The title track “Ceremony” bursts with strong trap EDM, baile funk rhythms, sharp plucks, powerful beats, and addictive hooks. Its music video, which adopts a sporty concept to match the song’s high-energy atmosphere, also grabbed attention worldwide with a cameo from esports legend Faker. The track captures the climactic moment when years of hardship and endurance finally turn into triumph, celebrating success while acknowledging the struggles that made it possible. In doing so, it presents Stray Kids’ journey as a sweeping panorama of past, present, and future. Likewise, the album itself feels like Stray Kids’ own kind of ceremony after finishing the world tour – a symbolic closing of one era and the opening of another.
Given the song’s central message and impact, Stray Kids also expanded “Ceremony” through several special versions. The Festival Remix rearranges it with lively, festival-ready sounds, raising its celebratory spirit for big stages. An English version was also prepared specially for global fans, bringing the message to a wider audience. In addition, the group released digital singles ‘CEREMONY (Maximum Power Remixes)’ on Aug. 25 and ‘CEREMONY (Celebrate Remixes)’ on Aug. 29, further offering fresh reinterpretations that add new dimensions to the track.
“CREED”
As the title suggests, “Creed” is about conviction and strong beliefs. With dark trap hip-hop beats, a catchy melody and a chant-like chorus, the track declares their promise to speak and act according to their beliefs while staying unshaken on their path.
“엉망 (MESS)”
A sentimental emo hip-hop track, “Mess” uses rough guitar sounds over a hip-hop beat with raw lyrics about lingering regrets and conflicts after a breakup. The track unravels the tangled situations and complicated feelings under the theme of mess. Its emotional weight immediately points to Han’s penmanship as he wrote and composed the song alongside Bang Chan. The fact that his style is recognizable from the very first listen makes this track a standout.
“In My Head”
Bright, cheerful guitars and an easy-to-sing pop-rock melody balance the song’s theme of everyday worries. Stray Kids hopes this track offers lighthearted comfort, encouraging STAY or even anyone who’s struggling with something to feel relief while humming along, even if only for a moment.
“반전 (Half Time)”
Driven by bass and dynamic beats, “Half Time” declares that the game is far from over. It reaffirms the resolve and confidence for the second half that lies ahead. With a narrative of persistence, the track frames halftime as a turning point. Stray Kids vow to rise again and create their comeback story, even after falling.
“Phoenix”
Like its name, “Phoenix” is an EDM track that conveys the determination to rise above hardships and soar like a phoenix reborn from flames. Filled with heart-pounding beats and magnificent sing-alongs, it radiates passionate energy and unshakable hope.
“Ghost”
“Ghost” builds its intensity with heavy bass, synth stabs, emotional organ tones and big beat-inspired rhythms. In contrast, the lyrics reveal inner pain, confusion and the struggle to grow stronger, creating a powerful duality. In addition, the vocals carry a desperate will to hold on to hope amid ghostly emptiness, blending perfectly into the track and leaving a lasting impression.
“0801”
A warm synthwave pop genre song, “0801” is a promise song to STAY. With comforting lyrics and a cozy melody, it reminds fans that Stray Kids are always by their side. “0801” also marks the date Stray Kids revealed the name of their fandom, STAY. This makes it a meaningful symbol of their bond with fans.
Looking ahead, Stray Kids expressed their long-term vision to stay true to their musical style regardless of trends. Moreover, they are determined to last as a group rather than a short-term project, while continuing to return to their fans whenever they are needed.
