This upcoming rom-com brings together powerhouse actors Uhm Jung-hwa and Song Seung-heon as the leads, heightening anticipation among drama fans. Moreover, audiences will see the two share the spotlight for the second time since their 2015 film Wonderful Nightmare, finally ending a decade-long wait.
Director Choi Young-hoon, best known for One the Woman (2021) starring Lee Ha-nee, took the lead behind the scenes. He also reunited with screenwriter Park Ji-ha, with whom he first collaborated in the secret agent drama Good Casting (2020). With this creative duo joining forces once again, My Troublesome Star continues to position itself as a highly anticipated release.

My Troublesome Star centers on South Korea’s brightest star, Im Se-ra (Jang Da-ah), one of the industry’s most sought-after actresses in the 90s. After countless roles and opportunities, she finally finds herself at the top — greatly praised for her talent and loved by all. However, due to a mysterious accident, she wakes up 25 years later with no memory of the past two decades. Once hailed as the “Nation’s First Love,” she’s now forced to live as an ordinary middle-aged woman in the 21st century. As Bong Cheong-ja (Uhm Jung-hwa), she sets out to reclaim her rightful place in the spotlight. With the help of former detective Dokgo Cheol (Song Seung-heon), whom she first encountered during her golden era, she fearlessly chases her unchanging dream of being a star.

Back in the late 90s, Im Se-ra (Jang Da-ah) stood as the nation’s leading star. No matter who you ask, there wasn’t a soul who didn’t recognize her name. Having won the Best Actress Award, she was already making a name for herself at a young age. But at the pinnacle of her career, an unforeseeable incident forced her away from the spotlight—until 25 years later.
In the blink of an eye, she wakes up to a new world as Bong Cheong-ja (Uhm Jung-hwa) with no recollection of the past two decades. Dokgo Cheol (Lee Min-jae) was once a promising detective who first crossed paths with Se-ra at a police station. Like most people who meet a famous person, he was an endearing bundle of nerves, even asking for her autograph with shaking hands. While we don’t know the extent of their relationship, this brief encounter seems to serve a deeper purpose as they reunite 25 years later.
Now a traffic officer, Cheol (Song Seung-heon) has somehow been demoted from his detective position due to an unknown incident. He’s composed and sharp-minded thanks to his job, yet he also carries a vulnerable side that only the people closest to him can witness. When he meets Se-ra (now Cheong-ja) again and hears her absurd claim, he’s naturally skeptical. But even with lingering doubts, he ultimately agrees to work with her as her pretend manager/bodyguard.

Played by Lee El, Go Hee-young was among the many artists overshadowed by Se-ra’s blinding popularity. She considers Se-ra her greatest rival, having been stuck in supporting roles for years because of her. So, when news of her disappearance came to light, Hee-young didn’t hesitate to claim her place.
Two decades later, Hee-young has risen as a leading star with the entire nation in her hands. Upon finding out that someone named Im Se-ra is making a comeback, she’s immediately on high alert. After devoting years of hard work to reach the top, she’s determined more than ever to stop anyone who attempts to steal her place.

Another character set to heighten the tension in the drama is Kang Du-won (Oh Dae-hwan). Like Cheol and Hee-young, he also knew Se-ra during her time in the limelight, since he was her previous manager.
Although he was once a timid boy who withered under the actress’s gaze, he faces her again as a changed person. As the head of a successful entertainment company, he’s become more confident and intimidating, fitting for a powerful man. Questions continue to arise about what happened between him and Se-ra and how this new dynamic will affect her long-awaited return.
