During the 5th anniversary special for the franchise, MAPPA officially announced that Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3, The Culling Game Part 1, would be released this upcoming January 2026. With this long-awaited release finally on the horizon, what should we be expecting, and how can you prepare if you’re new to the Jujutsu Kaisen series?

The Show
Jujutsu Kaisen is a series originally written by Japanese manga artist Gege Akutami which was later adapted into animation by the animation studio MAPPA. The 1st season was released back in 2020 and was followed by the Season 2 release in 2023. Since the series finale of the manga last September, fans have been anxiously waiting for news regarding the rest of the show. Earlier this year, at LA’s Anime Expo 2025, Season 3 was officially confirmed, and an official date was set during the 5th Anniversary announcement on August 31, 2025.
What To Expect
Season 3 is set to cover the Culling Game Arc of the series, picking up from Season 2’s Shibuya Incident Arc, which ended by foreshadowing the standoff between characters Yuji Itadori and Yuta Okkotsu. The Culling Game Arc spans across Volumes 18 to 25 in the manga series, implying that there will likely be a Season 4 release to cover the rest of the books (26-30).
From the trailer we see the appearance of both old and new characters, along with a drastic tonal shift from the first season. With an emphasis on fighting and life-or-death situations, we can assume that this new season will be a continuation of the Shibuya Incident Arc’s adrenaline-filled atmosphere.
Production Timeline
Upon the official announcement for Season 3, Aya Suzuki, one of the layout artists and animators working on the franchise, shared with fans via social media that they had been working on the upcoming season for over a year. This is exciting news as fans worried the rising popularity of the show would result in a rushed production.
