On Oct. 27, JYP Entertainment’s rookie boy group NEXZ (Tomoya, Yu, Haru, So Geon, Seita, Hyui, Yuki) released their third mini album ‘Beat-Boxer’, along with the title track of the same name.
Since their global debut in May 2024, NEXZ has steadily expanded their presence as a leading next-generation K-pop group. They embody the vibrant energy and creative spirit of Gen Z. In April, they marked a career milestone with their second mini album ‘O-RLY?’. The album topped real-time Korean music charts, led weekly album rankings and earned them their first-ever nomination for a music show, proving their increasing influence.
Now, six months later, NEXZ returns with ‘Beat-Boxer’. This album brings a broader musical range, strong collaboration and great confidence. Before its official release, the group built excitement by dropping the full music video for the B-side track “I’m Him”. This video showcases their ambitious path and confident vision.
The album features five tracks: “Beat-Boxer”, “I’m Him”, “Legacy”, “Co-Star” and “Next To Me.” There is also a CD-only bonus track, “Z Side_250823 (CD Only)”. Renowned producer Ronny Svendsen worked with the group again on the title track along with respected global songwriters Anne Judith Wik, Nermin Harambasic, WUTAN and Leslie.
Notably, “Next To Me” is a song written by all seven members, with Tomoya and Haru also contributing to its composition. This track expresses NEXZ’s genuine emotions toward their fans, NEX2Y, making it easier for listeners to feel their sincerity.
“Legacy”
A hip-hop piece that combines powerful beats with a dramatic essence, opening the album with a cinematic feel. It captures the tension and determination of facing an unpredictable storm, representing NEXZ’s relentless drive and fearless dreams.
“Beat-Boxer”
The title track, ‘Beat-Boxer,’ combines the words “beat” and “boxer” as it showcases NEXZ’s aim to “smash or dominate the beat” during live performances with boundless energy. The simple yet distinct sound draws from early 2000s hip-hop and dance music, making a refreshing statement. The song’s imagery brings to mind the thrill of a boxing match and the excitement of a dance floor, leaving a lasting impression.
The music video enhances this idea by featuring the members in intense face-offs against various backgrounds as they chase success. The gripping tension and cinematic visuals underline NEXZ’s commanding stage presence, highlighted by dynamic camera work and striking choreography. This further cements their reputation as a “next-generation performance powerhouse.”
“I’m Him”
A track that balances heaviness with a laid-back style, featuring a bouncy rhythm and catchy hook. The lyrics deliver a strong message: “I’m that guy, no one else.” Its confident tone and energy celebrate empowerment and pride.
“Co-Star”
With cinematic storytelling and a dramatic flow, this song unfolds like a scene from a movie. The lyrics illustrate NEXZ’s bond and shared pursuit of their dreams, comparing their connection to being “co-stars” in the same story.
“Next To Me”
Composed by Tomoya and Haru with lyrics written by all members, “Next To Me” conveys NEXZ’s genuine emotions. Its bright piano melody and warm harmonies reflect the gentle excitement of falling in love. This song is a love letter to their fans, NEX2Y.
Recently, NEXZ finished their first solo Japan tour, NEXZ LIVE TOUR 2025 “One Bite,” performing 18 concerts across 15 cities. Within just one year of their debut in Japan, they performed at the iconic Tokyo Budokan, drawing over 50,000 fans throughout the three-month event.
On Oct. 25 and 26, the group held a special concert in Seoul named NEXZ SPECIAL CONCERT <ONE BEAT>, creating a memorable pre-comeback celebration with NEX2Y.
With ‘Beat-Boxer,’ NEXZ pushes their remarkable journey forward, infusing their new record with bold ambition, passion and determination. The group has struck a thrilling blow to the K-pop scene this fall, once again capturing fans’ hearts worldwide.
