ILLIT brings out their rockstar sides with their second Japanese single, “I Got Your Back (feat. Jisoo, Momoka of Hana).” First released in July, it became the main soundtrack for ABEMA’s original drama The Vacation Principle, starring Hashimoto Kanna and Chae Jonghyeop. It also peaked at No. 2 on the Billboard Japan Hot 100.
Originally a CD-only track, the Korean version of “I Got Your Back” officially dropped on all digital platforms on Aug. 17. Jisoo and Momoka from J-group Hana also participated in the track once again, demonstrating their impressive writing skills in their new rap verses.
“I Got Your Back” bursts with feel-good energy thanks to its upbeat instrumentals and vibrant delivery. The pop-rock genre showcases more of the girls’ versatility as they explore new sounds. Complementing ILLIT effortlessly, Jisoo and Momoka add charm with their stylish, slightly deeper vocals. Beyond that, the song carries a comforting message of being there for each other no matter the circumstances. It’s both addictive and heartwarming, a great pick-me-up when days feel a little too heavy.
According to ILLIT, the track mirrored their own thoughts and emotions, which they focused on conveying sincerely through their vocals. For them, singing in Korean gives it an “entirely new feel” compared to the original, making it a fresh yet equally pleasant listening experience for fans.
What’s Next for ILLIT?
ILLIT started the year off with their first Asia tour, PRESS START❤︎. After a two-night concert in Seoul last March, the girls traveled across Japan throughout June and July.
On Aug. 15, they made a brief stop in North America for their KCON LA debut. Their recent performance was met with enthusiastic responses, further demonstrating their rising global appeal. Following their festival appearance, they will resume their tour with two shows in Hong Kong and encore concerts in Incheon and Chiba until the end of the year.
