The 6-member K-Pop girl group Lapillus, consisting of Shana, Chanty, Yue, Bessie, Seowon, and Haeun under MLD Entertainment celebrate their new EP titled ‘Girls Round Pt. 2’, released on June 20. Their first ever EP ‘Girl’s Round Pt. 1’, was only released just last year on September 22.
The 6 track EP renders a different vibe apart from the first EP. From the heavy bass and upbeat dance energy of the first EP to the dreamy and poppy dance feel with a splash of world music styles in ‘Pt. 2’.
WHO’S NEXT
The second EP displays the versatility of Lapillus within their music style, despite them having only released 2 EPs in just under a year. ‘Girl’s Round Pt. 2’ consists of three versions of their newly released single, “Who’s Next,” an original, English, and instrumental version. The track has a fierce dance sequence followed by a catchy rap breakdown that ties the theme of dance anthems of ‘Pt. 1’ into ‘Pt. 2’.
“Who’s Next” makes us want to jump out of our seats and dance along. The song gives us a sense that it is an anthem for themselves. The lyrics “Show what you got” and “I was born a winner” feels like a post-debut song reintroducing themselves.
The “Who’s Next” music video has a rugged feel with its scenery of empty buildings and outdoor construction compared to “Hit Ya!” and “Gratata” which covey bright and soft visuals.
GIRL’S ROUND Pt. 1 & 2
‘Girl’s Round Pt. 1 & 2’ encompass all sides of GIRL POWER, from its cute and fierce mood while proving their hunger for more musically. With its rock-ish dreamy and spooky beat, “Marionette,” another track off the new EP, reminds us of Lolita fashion aesthetics if translated into a song. This song is much different from the ways of both EPs in a good way; it has a catchy angsty beat to which you can’t help but pop your head and tap your feet.
The last two songs, “ULALA,” which has a Latin flare with prominent drum beats along with the lyrics “La Vida Loca,” translating into “The Crazy Life,” makes you want to move your body and relax on the beach under the sun. It is no wonder Lapillus gained a large Latin following from attending the Premio Lo Nuestro 2023 Latin Music Awards in Miami. Lastly, “Paper” has a completely different song style to the rest of the tracks off of ‘Girl’s Round Pt. 2’. “Paper” with its chill and soft tone makes for a perfect summer evening drive by the beach daydreaming about your crush.
