Who knew getting lost overseas could lead to love? In Love Barista (Tay Anh Giữ Một Vì Sao), a top celebrity finds themself stranded in Vietnam. But what begins as an unfortunate mishap soon transforms into a blessing in disguise as he meets a friendly local with big dreams and a carefree smile. Between endearing cultural mix-ups and the scenic landscapes of Vietnam, the hearts of two unlikely individuals slowly blend into one.

Beyond the film’s romantic and humorous appeal lies a heartfelt story that delves into the endless pursuit of one’s dreams. This charming South Korea-Vietnam rom-com, directed by Kim Sung-hoon (Chief Detective 1958, Confidential Assignment), seeks to leave a lasting impression on its audience. One that resonates deeply after every watch. With Lee Kwang-soo and Hoàng Hà as the leads, Love Barista also serves as a cinematic tribute to their roots, as the film poignantly captures the beauty and harmony of their cultures.

Love Barista: Lost in Vietnam, Detour to Love

Love Barista introduces us to Kang Jun-woo (Lee Kwang-soo), a celebrity dubbed by his fans as “Asia’s Prince.” In an unexpected turn of events, he winds up stuck in Vietnam after his manager mistakenly brings his passport home. To make matters worse, he only has a phone and a few bills in his pockets.

Jun-woo quickly learns that not everyone knows (or cares about) who he is. A few more mix-ups and a broken phone later, he crosses paths with Thao (Hoàng Hà), an aspiring barista who takes him in after learning about his predicament. As he experiences Thao’s simple everyday life, he gradually comes to love not just where he is, but who he’s with.

However, things are never easy in the spotlight. Both from different worlds, Jun-woo and Thao can do nothing but face the inevitable hurdles that will test their relationship. Will their love prevail? Or will they ultimately have to choose between their relationship and their dreams?

Lee Kwang-soo as Kang Jun-woo

Lee Kwang-soo (Karma, The Sound of Your Heart) assumes the role of Kang Jun-woo, an A-list celebrity who effortlessly captures the hearts of fans globally. He’s at the height of his success when a mistake by his manager leaves him alone in Vietnam. Left with nowhere to go, he’s forced to navigate life overseas until help arrives.

Through his encounter with Thao, he discovers the quiet beauty of an ordinary life—a stark contrast to his own. But as feelings become involved, his career soon disrupts the calm he’s come to cherish.

Hoàng Hà as Thao

Hoàng Hà (Chúng Ta Của 8 Năm Sau, Em và Trịnh) stars as Thao, a coffee shop employee who dreams of becoming a barista. With her goal set in stone, she lives with a purpose and actively works towards her dream. However, beneath her optimism is someone who doubts whether it’s still possible to pursue her passion.

When she meets Jun-woo, she warmly welcomes him into her world. From the lively streets of Ho Chi Minh City to her modest hometown, Thao introduces him to the heart of Vietnam and gradually forms a connection with the South Korean star.

Supporting Characters

Alongside Lee Kwang-soo and Hoàng Hà, Love Barista wouldn’t be complete without the rest of the crew who bring the story to life. Playing as Thao’s best friends, Vietnamese actors Duy Khánh and Cù Thị Trà deliver their natural charm and on-screen dynamics with the two leads.

In addition, Eum Moon-suk plays Jeong Han-cheol, Jun-woo’s manager and the root cause of his stress. A few weeks before the release, the film also announced the special participation of Kang Ha-neul as Cha Do-hoon, Jun-woo’s rival, threatening to outshine him in his absence.
