Netflix’s KPop Demon Hunters is here to turn your summer watchlist upside down with an animated adventure where global K-pop fame meets supernatural showdowns. Dropping June 20 exclusively on Netflix, the film follows three fierce idols who moonlight as demon hunters. Yup, you heard that right: full-time pop stars, part-time exorcists.

The Story: Pop Stardom Meets Paranormal Mayhem
Girl group HUNTRIX—made up of Rumi, Mira, and Zoey—are more than just chart-topping idols. By night, they lead double lives as demon hunters, sworn to protect their fans from supernatural threats. But their latest mission might be their toughest yet: taking down a rival boy band that’s, well… literally evil.

Voiced by Arden Cho (Teen Wolf), May Hong (Hacks), and Ji-young Yoo (Until Dawn), the trio’s chemistry brings real K-pop charisma to life. Tension spikes with the arrival of Ahn Hyo-seop (Business Proposal) joining the cast as Jinu, a mysterious leader of the demon boy group—a villain you might want to stan.
The rival group’s name, SAJA BOYS, is symbolic. Inspired by the Jeoseung Saja (저승사자), a figure from Korean mythology often seen as the Grim Reaper, the boys’ demon forms wear dark robes and traditional gat (hats). Their eerie look directly reflects the myth, giving this animated crew a chilling cultural twist.

The Dream Team Behind the Film
From Sony Pictures Animation, the same studio that gave us Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse and The Mitchells vs. The Machines, KPop Demon Hunters is co-directed by Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans. Rooted in Kang’s original concept, the story is brought to life with a script by Danya Jimenez, Hannah McMechan, Kang, and Appelhans.
Director Appelhans describes the tone as a blend of “authentic K-drama emotion” and “the vulnerability and comedy of real young women juggling a dual life”. Korean screen legends Lee Byung-hun (Squid Game, Mr. Sunshine, The Magnificent Seven) and Daniel Dae Kim (Avatar: The Last Airbender, Lost, Hawaii Five-0) lend their voices to the film. And yes, Lost fans, we’re getting a mini Sun and Jin reunion. Yunjin Kim (Lost, XO, Kitty) is also in the cast. The star-studded ensemble further includes:
- Joel Kim Booster (Big Mouth)
- Liza Koshy (Transformers: Rise of the Beasts)
- Ken Jeong (The Masked Singer)

K-pop Soundtrack That Slaps
The music? Absolutely stacked. The film’s original tracks are produced by top-tier talent including Teddy Park, 24, IDO, KUSH, Stephen Kirk, Lindgren, Jenna Andrews, and more. Vocal powerhouses like EJAE, Audrey Nuna, REI AMI, and Kevin Woo bring the songs to life.
Likewise, TWICE’s Jeongyeon, Jihyo, and Chaeyoung perform a brand-new song for the film, officially cementing the project’s place in K-pop history.
Director Kang shared her excitement: “It’s a dream come true to have original songs written and produced for our film by legendary talent such as THEBLACKLABEL. Our collaboration with TWICE legitimizes our film in the K-pop world.”
