NCT’s JAEHYUN officially returns with his new single “99 Degrees.” He hasn’t released new music in nearly two years, making this his highly anticipated comeback project after finishing his military service back in May. On July 10, he also dropped an accompanying official music video alongside the track.
Co-written and co-composed by JAEHYUN, he brings his artistic and musical perspective to the song. “99 Degrees” is a heartfelt ballad that opens with soft piano melodies and slowly builds into a full, sweeping arrangement. Near the end, the instrumentation pulls back, and JAEHYUN’s warm and expressive vocals carry the song alone, giving it an intimate and sincere finish.
The meaning of the song comes from a simple idea. Love reaches 99 degrees, just one degree short of boiling to 100. So, JAEHYUN uses this idea to show how love doesn’t need perfection to feel whole. It just needs another person to complete it by filling in what’s missing. In other words, the lyrics explore how falling short of perfect can still feel real and sincere.
The music video also follows JAEHYUN through places tied to old memories. He walks back through them and lets the past resurface, reflecting on it. Piece by piece, he lets go of the need to be perfect and finds his footing in the imperfect moments that carry him forward by the end.
Meanwhile, JAEHYUN shared his thoughts on the song:
“I’m happy to finally share “99 Degrees,” a song I worked on with a lot of love. I hope listeners can also feel the beauty of finding something complete within imperfection. May this song bring a little comfort to Czennies and everyone who listens, and I hope you all have a healthy and happy summer,” he said.
Since his solo debut in 2024, JAEHYUN has shaped his own musical identity through a run of releases that each show a different side of him. His first solo album, ‘J,’ leaned into his signature warmth and sophistication. “Unconditional” brought out a jazzy, playful charm, while “Horizon” settled into a more relaxed mood. “Forever Only” went deeper, capturing a quiet, wistful emotion. Across all releases, JAEHYUN keeps expanding his musical range with his smooth but resonant vocals, an understated style, and a delivery that never overplays the emotion.
Before the release of “99 Degrees,” JAEHYUN met fans in person during his JAEHYUN FAN-CON TOUR in Taipei from July 4 to 5. He will also reunite with NCT 127 for the group’s seventh full-length album, out Aug. 24, and their fifth world tour, NCT 127 5TH TOUR ‘NEO CITY – THE REDLINE,’ which kicks off in Seoul this September. In August 2026, NCT 127 will then head to the U.S. to headline KCON LA 2026, setting the stage for their upcoming album.
The bigger picture connects to NCT’s 10th anniversary. The group has launched a year-long global initiative called NCT 2026, running under the slogan “EVERYTHING, ALL AT ONCE, NEO.” The initiative spans music releases, tours, and exhibitions across the world, with more details available on the official NCT 2026 website.
