Korean indie-rock band, The Rose, made up of members Woosung, Dojoon, Hajoon, and Jaehyung, is slated to join the mental health app, Mindset, on August 17th, 2023. Mindset, an app created by Dive Studios, focuses on mindfulness and mental well-being.
On Mindset, users are greeted with daily inspirational quotes and a community reflection question, which they can see other users’ answers to. Users are also able to interact with each other through comments, as well as view past questions and answers. Questions range from light-hearted inquiries like knock-knock jokes to introspective ones like asking what “happiness” means to each user. Users can also access collections of podcasts featuring artists sharing their own reflections on mental health and life.
Previously, the leader of the band, Woosung, released his own collection in 2021, opening up about his experiences with criticism and eating disorders. He will soon be joined on the app by his bandmates, whom he debuted with in 2017. In a tweet made on August 5th, the Twitter account for Mindset announced The Rose’s upcoming collection. Also announced, was that the collection was in collaboration with the Jed Foundation, a non-profit focused on youth mental health. A trailer for the collection was revealed on August 13th, teasing three episodes and alluding to the band’s past struggles. Some of these struggles include a 2020 lawsuit against their former management J & Star, citing lack of payment and overwork. This lawsuit was referenced in the trailer.
The band’s collaboration with Mindset and the Jed Foundation emphasizes a long-established exploration of mental health in The Rose’s artistry. In 2022, ‘Heal’ was released, their first album as a group since separating from J & Star. ‘Heal’ is an album centered around mental health and was meant as a source of comfort, with the hope that The Rose and their fans, Black Roses, could heal together. Preceding ‘Heal,’ the band released “She’s In The Rain,” the title track for their 2018 EP, ‘Dawn’. “She’s In The Rain” is a song dedicated to people who are lonely and weary of life.
The Rose’s Mindset collection will be released on Mindset’s Youtube channel on August 17 at 10 a.m. KST (August 16th at 6 p.m. PST). The collection will also be available on the Mindset app, which is free to download.
