On Aug. 15, the indie-rock trio Wave to Earth—Daniel Kim, John Cha and Dong Q—concluded the summer leg of their 0.03 World Tour at the Fillmore in Detroit. With a line stretching across three blocks, the band’s high demand was immediately apparent to passersby who had yet to be introduced to the trio. As the seconds ticked away, the line grew increasingly passionate as they prepared to witness the artist behind some of the internet’s biggest songs. Finally, as the last attendees joined the crowd of eager spectators, cheers amplified as Wave to Earth emerged onto the stage, ready to share their melodic sounds with Detroit.

The ensemble, joined by their saxophonist Jeon Min, opened their set with “are you bored?,” “play with earth!” and “peach eyes” kicking off the night with an energetic reaction from the audience. Ahead of the next set of songs, vocalist Daniel Kim greeted the crowd—welcoming them to their concert while highlighting the intense energy delivered from the Detroit fans. As he teased the next song, antsy audience members couldn’t contain their excitement any longer, so the group proceeded to give the fans what they wanted—the crowd-pleasing track, “bad.”

Throughout the night, the band’s melodic music flowed from the venue’s speakers like water through a stream, carrying a sensation of grace and relaxation with every guitar pluck. As the band completed their “homesick” performance, audience members fervently awaited the next song, a beloved fan favorite, “love.” Not one silent voice remained in the crowd as the spectators sang devotedly, indicating their everlasting admiration for this gentle tune. Wave to Earth poured every emotion into each song performed on the stage, even through unforeseen circumstances, causing their performance of “annie” to restart three times. Despite the numerous delays, the band did not waver and carried on to close their show with a shower of confetti before departing from the stage.

No concert is complete without an encore, especially when the most requested song hasn’t been fulfilled yet! The three-song encore featured tracks “wave” and “pink,” but the star of the show was the massively popular track “seasons.” Devoted fans of the song held signs demanding to hear the song and even shouted “Perform Seasons!” until the band delivered the request to the crowd’s enjoyment. As the show ended, a satisfied smile etched itself onto each concertgoer’s face, acting as confirmation of an unforgettable show from Wave to Earth.
