K-pop boy group, 8TURN (previously known as BOM) began their first world tour, ‘8TURNRISE.’ The highly anticipated tour spanned from early April and May. 8TURN comprised eight members: Jaeyun, Haemin, Myunghi, Minho, Yoonsung, Kyungmin, Yungyu, and Seungheon. Debuting in 2023, the group was extremely excited to hit the stage.
During their show at Varsity Theatre in Minneapolis, Minnesota, 8TURN got the crowd jumping immediately. With a combined capacity of approximately 1000, this show made for the perfect intimate experience between Turnings and 8TURN. Although the venue was small, they made a huge impact on the crowd. After a series of intense performances, amazing crowd interaction, and heavy Minnesotan knowledge, 8TURN made the venue feel like home to many.
WHOSE TURN? 8TURN!
The tour was named after their first album, 8TURNRISE. They rose to the top as they opened their show with “WORLD,” a track with explosive energy and intense choreography. The excited crowd broke sound barriers as they cheered for the group. The cheers from the crowd actively fueled 8TURN throughout the show as they became more and more loud. “WORLD” is a song that explores a blurred line between dreams and reality; likely how their fans were feeling in that moment. They kept the energy up with a transition to “RU-PUM PUM,” amping everyone in the venue.
The two-hour show was filled with amazing laughs, cheers, and interactions from 8TURN and turnings alike. Highly anticipated songs such as “Tic Tac” and “Leggo” were the stars of the show. With deafening cheers and high energy, those performances could leave you in a euphoric state. Not only was the performance on stage, but fans could be found participating in the choreography.
It is no secret that 8TURN is incredibly in sync. Their choreography was fast-paced, intense, and complex. In sparkly denim jackets, they made it look like they didn’t even break a sweat. As the show continued, they decided to showcase their skills differently: a dance battle. As they separated into two groups, they gave the crowd a laugh as turnings voted for which team wins and gets to sleep in.
COVERS
Although they’re amazing as a team, 8TURN broke into three sub-units and performed their iconic covers of BTS’s “Black Swan,” Kiss of Life’s “Sugarcoat,” and Kendrick Lamar’s “Not Like Us.” The combination of hip hop, contemporary, and pop gave Turnings a taste of everything that 8TURN delivers. In addition to covers of other artists’ songs, 8TURN also delivered a medley of other songs they’ve covered this past year; including songs such as Enhypen’s “Pass the Mic” and IVE’s “Love Dive.”
SECRET MIDWESTERNERS?
During the show, 8TURN made it a point to converse with their fans. They discussed their favorite American foods, what they do in their downtime, and their favorite things about Minnesota. As they shared their favorite pastimes, they expressed an intense knowledge of Minnesota and its culture. Their love for lakes, biking, and Prince strengthened the bond between them and their native fans.
Not only did 8TURN discuss their favorite things, but they left the floor open for fans as well. Turnings suggested foods to eat, filmed a TikTok with 8TURN, and even sang Happy Birthday to someone in the crowd. All of their interactions left a lasting impression on the entire room and felt like a long awaited family gathering!
TURNING OVER LOVE: ENCORE
8TURN expressed their gratitude to their fans for attending their first tour ending with their most endearing tracks, “Like a Friend,” “ING” and “You Are My Reason.” This delicate encore served as a warm hug and thank you to everyone in attendance. 8TURN gave us a wild ride full of love, laughs, and energy. They delivered the full package and told us what 8TURN is all about. The hard work that they’ve put in does not go unnoticed and neither does their love for performing. We would like to wish wish 8TURN the best on the remainder of their tour moving forward!
