Starting the month of May with a bang, South Korean boy group TRENDZ released their fifth single album, ‘Chameleon.’ They released ‘Chameleon’ on May 1, 2025, including three songs – “RPZ”, “Chameleon”, and “ddoO ddoO,” with “ddoO ddoO” pre-released as a single on April 25th. This single album is the group’s first release since July 2024.

The first song of ‘Chameleon’ is a subunit song performed by Hankook, ra.L, and Yechan, the rappers of TRENDZ. Aptly named “RPZ,” short for “rappers/rapperz”, the track is an energetic hip-hop song. It boasts the three’s skills as rappers, as well as their abilities to write lyrics and create flows. The lyrics of “RPZ” also signify the trio’s pride in their group, their accomplishments, and their fans. “RPZ” marks the band’s first dabbling in hip-hop, a genre the members have previously expressed an interest in delving into.

“Chameleon,” the album’s namesake, is the title track of the album and the second track. “Chameleon” is an empowering pop song about staying true to oneself. The lyrics alternate throughout the song between self-assuredness and vulnerability in the face of criticism. The song’s various tones directly reflect these contrasts. In opposition to this, when the band expresses the toll harsh words may have on them, the instrumentals diminish to acoustic guitar; they take on sweet, ballad-like vocals. As a whole, the song serves to reassure the TRENDZ members of their identities and good qualities. The variance within the track itself highlights the artists’ versatility as performers and as people.

The third and final song of the single album is the bright, upbeat “ddoO ddoO”. “ddoO ddoO” takes its name from the onomatopoeia of a phone notification noise. This song is a lighthearted, upbeat pop song about connection, urging a love interest to come spend time with the narrator. The narrator of the lyrics expresses their desire to make memories together with the love interest, making their days brighter.
