Just four months after their previous comeback, TOMORROW X TOGETHER (commonly known as “TXT”) surprised fans with a brand new Japanese release titled “Setsuna Hanabi.” As their fifth Japanese release, “Setsuna Hanabi” carries a unique essence that the group continues to bring to their non-Korean tracks. As we approach the end of summer, TXT aimed to capture the inevitable feeling of time slipping away between them and their summer love.

TITLE MEANING

“Setsuna Hanabi” is broken up into two meanings: “Setsuna,” which means a “split second,” “instant,” or “fleeting moment,” while “Hanabi” means fireworks (or “fire-flowers” in direct translation). The combined title of this song directly translates to “Fleeting fireworks” or “Momentary fireworks.” Thus, the track refers to time as a metaphor for the short-lived excitement of watching fireworks.

MUSIC VIDEO

TXT is no stranger to elaborate visuals. Paired with the single is a music video featuring all five members. It continues to dive into the emotional turmoil that someone experiences in a moment where they feel everything is disappearing. The members depict feelings of anger, sadness, and yearning, all of which can occur simultaneously in that situation. Not only do we see it in the visuals and the title, but also much more in the lyricism.

“When a momentary firework sparks, it’s destined to fade soon, just like you and I.”

The opening lyrics sum up the entire song perfectly. The fireworks symbolize not only the fleeting nature of good moments but also the internal spark and excitement one feels for someone else. Summer is fun and can be full of flings, but the unfortunate truth is that not everything makes it through the other seasons. They explain that although not everything lasts forever, there’s still beauty in those moments.

“We look up at the fireworks that bloom and wither. Even though I know I’m not meant to be, I still pray to the night sky. Don’t let me, don’t let me go, please.”

For all of our yearners, this song is perfect for you. In the pre-chorus sung by Yeonjun & Hueningkai, it’s evident that they don’t want their summer to end. Although bittersweet, they know that the end is near.

“The peak has already passed. By the time I realized, we’re already close to the ending. I find myself replaying a scene I’ll never forget. Don’t let me, don’t let me go, please”

Paired with the single is the release of two additional Japanese tracks titled “Silence” and “Nice to Meet Ya,” as well as an alternative version of “Setsuna Hanabi.” Sitting at only twelve minutes long, this small project harbored big (and relatable) emotions. Although short, TXT never fails to deliver amazing Japanese releases!
