ILLIT stole our hearts back in March with their debut single, “Magnetic.” Now the girls are back, this time with more love. Their comeback EP titled “I’LL LIKE YOU” consists of 5 tracks; “Cherish (My Love),” “I’ll Like You,” “IYKYK (If You Know You Know),” ‘Pimple” and “Tick-Tack.” The perfect comeback album following up with their popular debut EP, “Cherish (My Love),” their EP single keeps the theme of a crush from their last EP, this time in a softer tone. The girls of ILLIT gained viral popularity with “Magnetic” with K-pop and non-K-pop fans all around, and we’re sure this EP will have the same effect.
As soon as ILLIT debuted, they perfectly encapsulated the vibe and visuals of what having a crush feels like through their concepts. ‘I’ll Like You’ concept photos and music video with a 90s mix of hazy, dreamy, picturesque colors— as if in the mind of a teenage high school girl crushing hard. Dreamcore described by GLLITs (fandom name) describes ILLIT’s sound and visuals; we here at POP TOKKI couldn’t agree more.
“I’LL LIKE YOU“
ILLIT’s single for this EP, “Cherish (My Love)” the focal point is that of a wisdom tooth hence the name of their club listed on the gum wrapper as soon as Wonhee opens the gum. “Sarangnee,” otherwise known as “Wisdom tooth” in Korean or “Love teeth,” is a play on emotions, where the tooth embodies the love in this music video. In the video, the girls are pictured caring for and cherishing their teeth as if holding on to those feelings of love. Also, we see them running away from utensils found in the orthodontist’s office. However, at the end of the music video, all five girls are bandaged up as they let their teeth be removed, which can signify letting go, but we’ll leave it up for interpretation.
“I’ll Like You” is the first track and title of the EP. This song has more of a pop feel than the EP counterparts, which you would find in “traditional” K-pop. However, “IYKYK (If You Know You Know)” also captures that cool, trendy pop feel with a small rap breakdown not found in other ILLIT material, a first for the girls. Both of these tracks carry hints of minor dance and club tones, perfect for a girls’ day out with friends.
“Pimple” is a softer tone-down track, an excellent song for another day with friends, this time for a late-night laid-back vibe, whether at home or out on the road. Besides “Cherish (My Love),” this track has easy-going, dreamy vibes, whereas its countertops have an upbeat dream pop aesthetic. Lastly, “Tick-Tack” is reminiscent of their debut single. This track is the most optimistic and sound-heavy on this EP, as it utilizes unique sounds that one would hear in a popular 90s computer game. Overall, ILLIT killed their first comeback, and we here at POP TOKKI want to congratulate them on their first comeback! We can’t wait to see what else ILLIT has in store.
You can catch ILLIT live at the MAMA AWARDS 2024 in Los Angeles on November 21!
