South Korean girl group, H1-KEY broke into the K-pop scene in January of 2022. Following their debut album ‘Athletic Girl,’ the group has continued to create music that showcases many personal journeys such as self-love, self-discovery, healing, and comfort. The group consists of four members: Seoi, Riina, Hwiseo, and Yel. Inspired by the term “high-key”, the group aims for confidence and healthy beauty. In February of 2023, the group ranked 3rd for Girl Group Brand Reputation (following NewJeans and BLACKPINK). As we moved into 2024, H1-KEY delivered fans two singles titled “Thinkin’ About You” and “Deeper” which dove into an array of internal feelings that the members are learning to overcome.
“Thinkin’ About You” and “Deeper” are both expected to contribute to their upcoming ‘H1-KEYnote’ project. In preparation, the group hopes to send a heartfelt message to fans through their music. “Thinkin’ About You” is a warm pop track. It expresses the longing for a lover after breaking up by portraying someone who is too prideful to showcase their sorrow. Likewise, “Deeper” is a pop track, but with modern rock sounds. It describes the self-healing journey of never losing hope during difficult times. This is a beautiful storyline to juxtapose the storyline of the previous release.
POP TOKKI had the amazing privilege to chat with H1-KEY, during a roundtable interview, about their own self-healing journey and what keeps them inspired throughout the creative process. With full enthusiasm, H1-KEY went into depth about what this experience has done for them and what’s to come!
“You’ve recently released your new single, “Deeper” and it dives into the journey of self-healing. Which lyrics resonate with you the most and what can be applied to your life going forward?”
“The lyrics of “Deeper” begin with “I wondered if this was right,” a phrase that can be applied to various situations. I resonate with this line as it reflects my willingness to move forward despite doubts.”

“When you are feeling uninspired, what step do you take to get you back into the creative process?”
“We draw inspiration from various sources like books, movies, and music since we can’t experience everything firsthand. When I’m feeling uninspired, I put myself in the shoes of a main character, letting my imagination wander freely. I think about things like, what would have happened if I had done that.”
