Chart-topping virtual idol group PLAVE (YEJUN, NOAH, BAMBY, EUNHO, HAMIN) has joined forces with Japanese brand Sanrio for their second single album, ‘PLBBUU.’ On Nov. 10, they officially released their new album and the music video for their title track, “BBUU!” featuring some familiar characters. This comeback serves as a special gift for their beloved fans, PLLI, who have tirelessly shown their unwavering support.

Under VLAST, PLAVE has been redefining the music industry with their innovative creativity and stellar discography since 2023. The five-member group uses motion-capture technology to transform into webtoon-inspired avatars in real time, without losing the warmth of human touch. In addition to their unique concept, PLAVE’s artistry continues to shine as self-producing artists, with all members taking active roles in crafting their music and performances.
Their latest album, ‘PLBBUU,’ is a colorful addition to their dynamic catalogue, featuring three self-produced tracks that spotlight PLAVE’s sweet side. In tune with Sanrio’s lovable charm, they transport their listeners to a dreamy, comforting space. This comeback is a complete 180 from the dark and hard-hitting vibe of ‘Caligo Pt. 1,’ but they adapt to it with total ease.
“BBUU!”
Embodying the album’s concept, “BBUU!” is a charming, feel-good track that you can instantly sink into. It’s light, catchy, and lifts your spirits—kind of like the bubbly vibe of their first digital single, “Why?” The clever lyrics effortlessly slide over the smooth R&B instrumentals, making it an easy listen from the get-go.
Adding an extra playful layer, the song’s title comes from the onomatopoeia “뿌우,” which imitates the shape of puckered lips. Knowing this fun fact, their subtle references in the lyrics and choreography quickly begin to stand out. It’s this knack for weaving creativity into their work that shows PLAVE’s undeniable talent.
“Hide and Seek (Korean Version)”
PLAVE’s debut Japanese single, “Hide and Seek,” takes on a new form in its Korean version. First released in June, this track captures the essence of summer with its vibrant and refreshing energy. However, it also possesses a nostalgic vibe that you can hear in every line. The feeling of desperately searching for someone and the emotions that linger after every close encounter strike deep, like a bittersweet game of hide-and-seek.
In this release, PLAVE holds onto the heartfelt essence of the original while adding a distinct touch. Instead of simply translating into another language, they incorporated the delicate nuances of Korean into the lyrics. It’s a minor detail that elevates the track further, giving listeners a unique listening experience compared to the Japanese version.
“Bongsoong-a”
Closing the album on a mellow note, “Bongsoong-a” is a laid-back pop track built on a smooth R&B tempo. The title refers to a flower of the same name, also known as “balsam” in English. It’s a gentle nod to the Korean tradition of painting nails with balsam dye in summer, with some believing that your first love will come true if it lasts until the first snow.
Like the endearing belief, “Bongsoong-a” radiates the warmth of love and the butterflies that come with it. The soft-spoken lyrics and cozy guitar narrate a tender moment with your loved one, hands stained with dye as snow falls. It’s the ideal tune to ease into the winter season and the perfect one to end the album on.
From the Sanrio collab to the soothing tracks, there’s much to love about PLAVE’s latest comeback. Out of all of them, what was your favorite part? Drop your thoughts on Instagram or Twitter/X!
