We have seen various solo releases from all seven members of BTS. Within each release, we have been shown a variety of concepts, genres, and stories. R&B, Jazz, and Soul fulfilled V’s recent debut project as he took a route that we have not yet heard from any of the members. Wrapping up the series of solo releases with his most recent mini-album, V released ‘Layover’ on September 8th. This album is a very soft and dreamy release, perfect for the days you’d like to romanticize your life. Today, POPTOKKI is going to help you do that.
Rainy Days
“Rainy Days” is the perfect song to listen to on your chill nights, while doing homework, or most conveniently, while you’re on a layover. The chill, so-fi-sounding song reminds us of being at the train station or in the car while the rain comes down. It’s possible that you may even listen to this track while journaling and gazing out the window. As you begin to picture how relaxing that may be, “Rainy Days” emits that exact same feeling. Accompanied by a visually pleasing music video, “Rainy Days” was the first track to be announced for ‘Layover.’ It gives off a sense of nostalgia as it evokes smooth jazz instrumentals and remedied auras.
Blue
“Blue” is the song that is meant for your morning playlist. As you wake up and begin your daily routine “Blue” will give you a comforting rise and shine. The second track on ‘Layover’ solidifies the project’s entire feel, and the music video does not fail to fit the simplicity of our interpretation. This old-school R&B track is the perfect song to make your morning coffee to and even get a good breakfast going. We hope that “Blue” makes it to your morning playlist because it will be for us!
Love Me Again
“Love Me Again” is the perfect transition after “Blue.” The third track on ‘Layover’ describes V, post-breakup, wishing for his lover to come back to love him again. Although the song is an interpretation of a lonely event, V’s vocals make it sound the opposite. “Love Me Again” is yet another R&B track, suited for your focused nights. If you’re feeling studious and would like to get work done, this song might be the perfect match for you. Maybe you even take your work or study guide to a nice cafe to add to the ambiance. Either way, “Love Me Again” is an amazing track, and V’s love for old jazz and R&B music is very evident throughout his sound, and visual representations in the music video.
Slow Dancing
“Slow Dancing” is made for those who just want to dance in the kitchen with their lover while dinner cooks. Okay, not necessarily, but that is the ideal vibe that this song emits. It’s a jazzy, 70s soul song that describes the romance of being with someone and spending the entire day with them. For you hopeless romantics, this might be the song for you. Additionally, “Slow Dancing” has a piano version that is the last track on the album. Both versions of the song are like silk sheets. The gentleness of the track wraps up listeners with a sense of comfort and fondness, perfect for those nights you’re with those you love (even if it’s all romanticized).
For Us
“For Us” is the perfect wrap-up to this project. As we’ve given you countless tasks to complete throughout the listening process of ‘Layover’, we hope that you can treat yourself. Self-care is always essential and luckily for you, “For Us” is the best pop R&B track to play for your daily wind down and self-care nights. With a beautiful piano outro and layered vocals, “For Us” makes you feel like you’re floating. So with that being said, light a candle, relax, and do whatever makes your body feel good.
POP TOKKI is so glad you could join us on this journey of romanticization, along with an amazing review of V’s newest release. Hopefully ‘Layover’ becomes a part of your daily routine!
