CARATs are in for a grand new year celebration! Seventeen’s DK and Seungkwan have just been announced as the next power duo to debut as a new unit! Under the name DxS, their first mini-album, ‘Serenade,’ is set to be released on Jan. 12.
Before the official announcement, the two gave a sneak peek of their vocal chemistry through a stunning cover of Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars’ “Die With A Smile.” After CxM’s (S.Coups, Mingyu) charismatic debut last September, they’re ready to leave a lasting mark with their emotive vocals and undeniable synergy.

DK and Seungkwan are Seventeen’s main vocalists, with both being a part of their vocal unit alongside Jeonghan, Joshua, and Woozi. In 2018, they also debuted as a trio under BSS (or BooSeokSoon) with performance unit leader Hoshi, who is currently serving his mandatory military service. This time, they’ve come to reveal a new side of themselves through a new unit.
A Melancholic Serenade from DxS to You
On Dec. 17, DxS uploaded a cinematic trailer through HYBE LABELS’ official YouTube channel to mark the beginning of their debut countdown. The teaser titled “An Ordinary Love” features two strangers, each experiencing their own romantic woes.
Starting on a somber note, the trailer shows DK looking dejected as his call goes unanswered. It’s then followed by moments of him and his significant other at their apartment, close in proximity but never truly interacting with each other. Wilting plants, spilled milk, and rotting fruits scatter their shared space, seemingly reflecting their withering relationship. As one monotonous day meets another, the focus switches to Seungkwan as they barely miss each other at the train station.
Seungkwan works as a clerk for a comic book café, which he appears to be running late for. In the middle of a shift, he catches a glimpse of a customer’s book and briefly loses focus as he reminisces about a past relationship. The customer drops the book in his rush, and Seungkwan quickly runs after him to hand it over. The trailer ends as it flashes the book’s title, Blue, one last time, leaving us aching to know more about what’s to come.
Living up to the trailer’s title, DK and Seungkwan’s upcoming album hints at an emotional narrative that depicts the different stages of an ordinary love. Whether it’s singing about a relationship at the cusp of falling apart or one that has long since ended, the duo promises to deliver a heartfelt release that deeply resonates with listeners. Because they’re known for their vocal prowess and flawless harmonies, we have no doubt that they’ll accomplish exactly that.
