Japanese boy group, Travis Japan, started the summer strong with the release of their charming single “Sweetest Tune.” Following the release of this single, the group also featured in two episodes of Netflix’s Docuseries RIDE ON TIME, a series that follows the group as they take on new challenges in their career. The group continues to embark on new journeys as they will set off on their world tour in September. Travis Japan’s packed schedule only proves their superstar status as J-Pop idols. We at POP TOKKI had the opportunity to chat with the group about their tour, new single and music style in this mini-interview.
POP TOKKI: What do you want your fans to feel when listening to “Sweetest Tune”?
SHIME: I would be happy if people could feel whatever they wanted because each person has a different way
of feeling a song. I hope that fans who listen to ‘Sweetest Tune’ can feel their lives enriched, and sparkling, or feel a
sense of joy as a result.
POP TOKKI: Which cities are you most looking forward to on your first world tour Road to A? Which cities to wish to visit in the
future?
MACHU: There are too many places to even begin to answer that kind of question! I’m looking forward to seeing all
the people we met at our overseas performances since we debuted, and just want to keep the momentum going no
matter where we end up. If I had to pin it down to somewhere, maybe the East Coast? Or Texas, or Nevada…I’d love
to do a show in Las Vegas.
POP TOKKI: How would you describe your music style? What makes your sound uniquely catered to you?
NOEL: Borrowing from a conversation recently with the Universal Music staff, I’d say “Neo J-Pop.” But I think it’s hard
to limit what we are to a single genre. After all, it’s only been two years since Travis Japan went out into the
mainstream, and while we do have a very robust catalog from our Junior days, we still have a long way to go before
we’ve gathered enough music to confidently form a coherent ‘type’ for our sound. We always put everything we have
into our music, and as we continue to evolve and grow as artists so will that affect our output. I think that Travis
Japan’s unique strength is that we can keep changing, like a chameleon, and characterize everything we do with the
different key heights and individual strengths of each member, which adds to the rich individuality that comes through
in our voices.
