Formed through a unique fan-voted process known as Gravity, tripleS EVOLution consists of members Yooyeon, Nakyoung, Mayu, Kotone, Chaeyeon, Jiwoo, Soomin, and Yeonji. Together, they create an 8-member sub-unit out of the 16 tripleS members currently revealed to the public. On October 11, tripleS EVOLution delivered a stellar debut with ‘EVOLution <⟡> (MUJUK)’, less than two months after tripleS LOVElution’s debut with ‘LOVElution <ↀ> (MUHAN).’ With their 8-track mini album, tripleS’ 5th unit honors their name by adding a new dimension to tripleS’ sonic and visual catalog, leaving us hungry for more from the soon-to-be 24-member group.
The members of EVOLution are unbreakable as diamonds in the music video for the title track, “Invincible.” The song advocates for overcoming obstacles through the search for power and strength within one’s self. From engaging in deep meditation to discovering newfound abilities, the members of EVOLution demonstrate how resilience in the face of hardship can manifest into something magical. Produced by G-High of production team MonoTree (known for their work with LOONA, Red Velvet, and Girls Generation), “Invincible” effortlessly balances hard-hitting drum and bass elements with distant dreamy melody lines. With its patchwork of unconventional sounds, the track’s opening piercing brass sample leaves a strong impression in the listener’s mind. ‘EVOLution <⟡> (MUJUK)’ is filled to the brim with memorable B-sides, produced and composed by a range of notable names. Track three, “Rhodanthe,” is an explosive future house track produced by Choi Hyun Jun, best known for his work with IZ*ONE and WJSN. Highlighting the members’ impressive vocal talents, “Rhodanthe” expresses an intense determination to cherish one’s dreams and those you share them with before they disappear. The final track, “Enhanced Flower,” functions as an outro for the album while hinting at a future project from the group. With its moody, otherworldly soundscape, the track closes the album with lyrics like, “A time before the collision/ You should embrace yourself now/ After expanding like a black hole/ Take away gravity and fall down into the sky.” Performed by EVOLution member Jiwoo, the cinematic ballad track is expected to be revisited by a future unit of tripleS.
