The moment we have all been waiting for has finally come: BTS’ Jungkook released his solo debut album ‘GOLDEN’ following his remarkable debut song “Seven” and second single “3D.”
The album is composed of 11 tracks: “Closer to You,” “Seven (Explicit Ver.),” “Standing Next to You,” “Yes or No,” “Please Don’t Change,” “Hate You,” “Somebody,” “Too Sad to Dance,” “Shot Glass of Tears,” and “Seven (Clean Ver.).”
In a recent interview, Jungkook explained that the album is split between love and breakup songs, explaining all the emotions a relationship can offer. “The album. “GOLDEN” highlights three songs as the title tracks for the album:
“Standing Next to You” is undoubtedly the song that represents ‘GOLDEN’ as an album. Jungkook presents an outstanding vocal range in this funky disco track. The confidence in this track pulls the whole album together, showing a new side of his eclectic discography.
“Yes or No” has a unique feel compared to the rest of the album. The song is playful and boyband-like, asking for confirmation of a mutual feeling in a relationship. This song feels like the advancement of a relationship, speaking on the new feelings a newfound love can inflict on you.
“Hate You” is a heartbreaking, emotional song speaking on the feelings of an unwanted breakup. The piano-led track paired with Jungkook’s emotional vocals shifts the vibe for the whole album. In the song, Jungkook forces himself to hate his ex to justify his feelings towards a breakup. The emotions in this song make this one of the more personal tracks on this album.
Along with these three title songs, “Shot Glass of Tears” has proven to be a favorite of ARMY worldwide. “Shot Glass of Tears,” just like “Hate You” is a breakup song asking how to move on from a bad breakup. The song expresses the feeling of not being hopeful of feeling better. The sorrow and sentimental track is one that many ARMY found themselves relating to, showing Jungkook as a more personable artist to his fans.
Jungkook’s solo debut of “GOLDEN” proved to ARMY that he can make any genre, any lyrics, and any style work. Just like his “Golden Maknae” title, ‘GOLDEN’ itself showcases Jungkook’s ability to succeed in any genre.
