KCON JAPAN 2026 M COUNTDOWN featured an abundance of incredible performers and stages. While many artists wowed us, here are some of POP TOKKI’s most memorable M COUNTDOWN special stage performances from all three days. The collaboration and cover stages were undoubtedly the most memorable. Rookie and seasoned bands paid homage to many popular K-pop groups while also showcasing their talents alongside industry idols. Regardless, each performance left us in awe.
KCON JAPAN M COUNTDOWN DAY 1
SUNG HAN BIN of ZEROBASEONE, along with OJOGANG and Fabulous Sisters, set a strong tone for the weekend’s performances with a powerful opening act that showcased his famous waacking abilities. PRODUCE 101 JAPAN SHINSEKAI trainees took the stage, veering slightly away from the powerful and into an emotional stage full of people with lofty goals. As they performed the theme for Shinsekai, all 50 of the remaining trainees stood among KCONERS, with Masaya and Hiroto of INI standing proudly next to them, urging them to move forward. A genuinely unique moment that foreshadows the destiny of 12 trainees, where INI members Masaya and Hiroto once lived, as they pave the way to become idols.
Together with Theo and Jiung of P1Harmony, INI members Kyosuke and Fengfan slowed things down for a beautiful performance of FTISLAND’s “Love Love Love.” Each group’s two duos combine their lovely vocals to produce a well-balanced harmony that is both their own and a reverent tribute to FTISLAND. Soft lighting enhanced the atmosphere, and all four were wearing flowy tops in soft pastel colors. Rekindling their enthusiasm, the remaining nine INI members covered NCT 127’s “WALK,” each wearing a black jersey with their name on the front. In the middle of the song, Hiroto and Rihito began rapping in front of fans before heading to the stage, where the other members were waiting. Once more, a respectful homage to the shared passion between INI and NCT 127.
INI proved why they were the main act of KCON JAPAN M COUNTDOWN Day 1 by stealing the show with their songs, special stages, and, of course, DREAMSTAGE. The best-suited song from INI’s repertoire was selected for DREAMSTAGE, “FANFARE,” which embodies energy and makes everyone, fans or not, want to join in and shout “FANFARE!”

As performers like NiziU covered TWICE’s “This is For,” an effective song choice to kick off night two of M COUNTDOWN, a much livelier crowd from the previous night expressed their support and satisfaction. When ALPHA DRIVE ONE (ALD1) performed WANNA ONE’s “Beautiful,” they created a straightforward yet sophisticated atmosphere. Additionally, recently formed groups like MODYSSEY and FLARE U covered “Mr. Taxi” by Girls’ Generation and “Drunk-Dazed” by ENHYPEN, setting up a lighthearted scene and adding to the excitement. a variety of well-known K-Pop artists’ classic songs performed with admiration by the younger generation.
Even though these unique sets were more than sufficient to maintain the night’s energy, JO1 and ALD1’s next artist collaboration was the star of the show. With SANGWON in the center, ALD1 took the stage to begin JO1’s single “BE CLASSIC,” omitting the same drama as Ren as a conductor. Just before the chorus began, they all took center stage together and danced in unison until the very end, with JO1 trailing behind.
Headliner JO1’s performance of “TSUKAME – It’s Coming,” the theme song for the first season of Produce 101 Japan, was another major highlight of day two, despite not being a collaboration stage. Everyone in the audience was stunned as they watched. A small nostalgic treat for fans of JO1, who have been together for more than six years since their March 4, 2020, debut. JO1 also participated in KCONERs’ dreamstage segment of “Loveseeker,” which is a part of KCON that is consistently highlighted.

On the last night of M COUNTDOWN, there were a lot of back-to-back collaborations and bands like AxMxP and hrtz.wav. After each set, they complemented each other despite being very different genres, izna also performed a beautiful rendition of BOYNEXTDOOR’s “IF I SAY, I LOVE YOU” before the main event. They dressed like schoolgirls and changed the mood a little before the audience was drawn in by a powerful final performance.
The stars of night three were unquestionably ZEROBASEONE, who not only performed their own songs but also collaborated and interpreted specific songs that highlighted each member’s charm and strong suit. ZB1 sang SHINee’s “SHERLOCK (Clue + Note).”What a performance they gave with this cover; their vocals were powerful and echoed throughout the venue. As a first for the newly formed group, each member shone in their own unique way without detracting from one another, resulting in a cohesive stage.
KIM JI WOONG took over the solo stage by performing KAI (EXO)’s ‘ROVER’ in true Ji-woong style, evoking a masculine yet sexy vibe throughout the performance. KIM TAE RAE and KIM JAE HWAN changed the mood by covering CNBLUE’s ‘I’m Sorry’ side by side with string instruments, creating an electrifying atmosphere that was very different from JI WOONG’s, a nice break from what SEOK MATTHEW, PARK GUN WOOK, and JO1’s Junki and Ren were about to lay out. Sweet vocals and smooth rapping were expected on this stage; however, a sultry, magnetic mood was immediately established as they nailed Aespa’s “DIRTY WORK.” A style reminiscent of MATTHEW and GUN WOOK, but a complete departure from how Ren and Junki are frequently portrayed within their respective groups. Both members’ tousled hair, paired with all-black grunge for Ren and a sleek leather ensemble for Junki, elevated the overall performance. Junki sang in a lower octave, while Ren sang in a whisperlike tone, which was very different but very compelling, revealing a new and impactful style. MATTHEW and GUN WOOK wore much more relaxed grey and black outfits with slightly slicked-back hair, resulting in a distinct dynamic between the two. Of course, both members showcased what they are best known for, besides vocals: rapping. Undoubtedly, a viral-worthy performance.
KCON JAPAN 2026 created many unforgettable moments over three days by bringing your favorite artists together on stage, with headliners performing an hour-long set each night. The special collaboration, cover, and hour-long stages added a satisfying and delightful element to KCON overall. We’re excited to see what KCON LA 2026 has in store, as well as future KCON events in general.
