ZEROBASEONE has returned with their passionate and charismatic title track, “CRUSH,” from their second EP, ‘Melting Point.’ The EP, released on November 6, features five distinctive and eccentric songs, showcasing a new sound in this addition to ZEROBASEONE’s discography.
The EP opens with “MELTING POINT,” a song highlighting the feeling of discovering a new love and the emotions that come with it. The song includes lyrics such as, “When I see you, my heart goes to a roller coaster. Even if I melt and become small in front of you, I feel okay.” This song was the perfect opener for a winter-inspired album, almost conveying the feeling of a fleeting snowfall. It is a cute, light, and relaxing opener to the highly expected mini-album.
“Take My Hand” is a youthful song conveying the confidence of going hand-in-hand into a new world with someone you care about. The song walks you through an adventure with its imaginative lyrics that paint a story in your head. A pink sky, a neon-lit city, and a dreamland are all described as what one should feel when holding the hand of the person they like. “The moment I held your hand it became a whole new world in my eyes,” is repeated, emphasizing the exciting feeling of a new love and the adventure it can bring.
Even with its mixed reviews, the title track, “CRUSH,” definitely leaves an impact on listeners and ZEROSE all around the world. “CRUSH” expresses a feeling of determination and the need to fight for what you love. These versatile emotions on top of a strong, radiant beat give new insight into what ZB1’s discography could look like in the future. Overall, the song is a surprising addition to ZB1’s record and is the most unique track they’ve released so far.
“Kidz Zone” is one of the songs on this album that expresses the feelings associated with a youthful friendship. The lyrics and playful vocals convey the excitement of starting a new chapter and getting one step closer to achieving your dream, all paired with the emotion one feels in their youth. “Kidz Zone” is a feel-good song that anyone experiencing struggle can relate to.
To top off the album, ZB1 sings “Good Night,” a touching, hopeful, and lullaby-like ballad, hopeful that, throughout the day and night, the person they care about is not only content but thinking of them as well. The group’s soft, angel-like vocals paired with affectionate lyrics are the perfect way to end this album.
Compared to ZB1’s first album, which focused on the shy and fleeing feelings of love and youth, ‘MELTING POINT’ showcases a more confident and cheeky stance for the group, making it the perfect sophomore release.
