NCT DoJaeJung, a new subunit of NCT: consisting of Doyoung, Jaehyun, and Jungwoo, debuted on April 17 with their first mini album ‘Perfume.’ Knowing the vocal abilities of these three members from NCT 127, this album became highly anticipated among NCTZENS. In the subunit NCT 127, Doyoung, Jaehyun, and Jungwoo each exude different vocal abilities that flow together. DoJaeJung showcases an extension of their vocal capabilities in the six songs on their mini album.
“Perfume” is a joyful song with a fusion of R&B and electro-funk with a rhythmical guitar. The groovy baseline and varying radiant vocals caught fans’ attention. The lyrics have a profound meaning, discussing leaving their scent on the one they love. In the music video, we see DoJaeJung in very calm and beautifully aesthetic settings, surrounded by scenery of flowers. The video’s airy and lively aura complements the lyrics and the delicate tone of the song.
DoJaeJung showcases five more tracks on the mini album that all have their own fiery vocals and unique sounds. Four of the tracks, “Kiss,” “Dive,” “Strawberry Sunday,” and “Can We Go Back,” fall mainly under the R&B genre, while “Ordinary” is a slower, emotional ballad song. ‘Perfume – The First Mini Album’ gives fans throwbacks to many popular NCT 127 songs, and because of this, many fans feel like this album is a pleasant continuance of the vocalist’s abilities.
