Five-member group, ILLIT—IROHA, WONHEE, MINJU, YUNAH, AND MOKA, has already won the hearts of many due to their colorful and playful visuals and music. Their debut single “Magnetic” was already a hit as many K-pop fans were already using the teaser track for many videos on TikTok. ‘Super Real Me’ is the title of their debut album, this album features 4 songs. These tracks combine 90s & Y2K girl group aesthetics with girl crush pop lo-fi sounds, encompassing inner playfulness and permitting listeners to have fun while listening to it.
“MAGNETIC“
“Magnetic” is reminiscent of the traditional K-pop sound with its fun, energetic, and pop vibe. The perfect track to welcome spring. At first listen, it’s felt as if we were transported into a magical game. This track among all others on this debut album has a more modern pop feel, giving all tracks a sense of connection but not so much where it feels too familiar.
“LUCKY GIRL SYNDROME”
“Lucky Girl Syndrome” has a much softer sound compared to “Magnetic” but still carries on the girl crush pop sound throughout. This track is perfect for surrounding ourselves with positive vibes and happy thoughts. A track to take on the world and feel like you are indeed dealing with “Lucky Girl Syndrome”.
“MY WORLD”
This track gives us a taste of the classic 90s girl group sounds similar to the likes of THE SPICE GIRLS, PLAY, B*WITCHED, and more. “MIDNIGHT FICTION”
“Midnight Fiction” sounds just like the title. A little darker in tone compared to its counterparts, it provides a dreamy and whimsical sound that makes us feel like we’re running through a wildflower field under the moonlight. Again, keeping in the theme of girly pop 90s & Y2K vibes allows the listener to reminisce whether older or not on their teenage days with lyrics like “teenage dream”.
ILLIT has killed it with their debut album, if you’re looking for an album that showcases the variety in a fun way this is definitely the album for you. It has only been a week since their debut and we already can’t wait for their next album!
