Following a remarkably successful debut, KISS OF LIFE is back to show us who they are, “monster rookies” of the 5th generation. ‘Born to be XX’ is KISS OF LIFE’s newest addition to their irresistible catalog of songs. Featuring seven songs –– including an English version on the title track, the quartet showcases their Hip-Hop and R&B-inspired sound through impressive rap verses, soulful vocals, and classic Hip-Hop/R&B beats.
KISS OF LIFE brings a fusion of Hip-Hop and Western Country to one track and creates a genre-defying experience that intrigues fans with its unique sound. This track prominently features the Western-style guitar, taking the lead in carrying the rhythmic melody. The infusion of Western style in “Bad News” not only provides flavor to the song but transports listeners to not the rugged scene of old-time Western cowboy films. The music video extends this narrative, portraying each member as a “bad girl,” rebelling against the many obstacles faced in society. A high-speed police chase was not what we thought we would see from KISS OF LIFE!
As we dive deeper into ‘Born to be XX,’ the remaining tracks –– excluding “Bad News (ENG Version), all hold unique characteristics. “Nobody Knows” is our standout track from this EP. A mid-tempo laid-back R&B track fit for the voices of the group. Drawing inspiration from the soulful vibes of Philadelphia Soul, Psychedelic sounds from the 1970s, and the edgy spirit of punk tracks, “Nobody Knows” takes a path rarely explored in the realm of K-pop.
It’s only been four months since KISS OF LIFE burst onto the scene with their dynamic debut, “Shhh,” and now we have more reasons to tune in to their musical endeavors. ‘Born to XX’ serves as a verification of their exceptional skills as not only singers but also producers and composers.
