It’s the creepiest and kookiest time of the year! As we enjoy the sweet fall weather and pumpkin spice, I’m sure we’re all anticipating the height of the spooky season. To celebrate the spooky spirit of October, POPTOKKI is here to pick some of the creepiest concepts from different groups to get you into the Halloween spirit.
VIXX – Voodoo Doll
This music video takes the cake for one of the creepiest music videos to hit the K-pop industry. “Voodoo doll” is a song about a man who is so infatuated with a girl, that he’s willing to sacrifice himself to satisfy her and become her voodoo doll. The music video for this thrilling concept takes us straight to the freak show as it features blood, gore, and of course, a voodoo doll. This video isn’t for the faint of heart, but I think we can all agree that VIXX shows no mercy to those who love horror.
Dreamcatcher – Good Night
Dreamcatcher is no stranger to chilling concepts. They are known for their hard metal sound, not always common in K-pop. Despite the title, “Good Night” may keep you awake for days. Dreamcatcher excels in portraying chilling concepts and we can see that reflected through various imagery in the video. With skulls, candles, and a woodsy ambiance, we’re not sure if this dreamcatcher is enough to keep the nightmares away.
SUNMI – Full Moon
What’s Halloween without vampires? In “Full Moon,” Sunmi is portrayed as a vampire who has had a long-time interest in a boy from childhood. The video begins with her biting him and for the remainder of the video, we watch as she anticipates his awakening. As she waits for him to come, Sunmi fantasizes about her life with him and explores her sensual side as she cannot wait to be with her new eternal partner.
PIXY – Wings
PIXY made their mark with their debut track “Wings.” As they represent fairies who have lost their wings, we receive an angsty track from the group. We see the good and the bad in each of the fairies as they try to spread their wings. The cinematography and lighting in this video make for the perfect eerie track, and we’re glad these pixies could fly.
ATEEZ – The Black Cat Nero (Halloween Performance)
How could we not include a Halloween performance!? ATEEZ put the “ate” in Ateez when they chose this version of “The Black Cat Nero.” They do an amazing job of becoming the concept rather than simply following it. The sick choreographies, horrific makeup styles, and a rock track were the perfect recipe for a witches’ pot.
Tomorrow X Together – Frost (Special Performance)
TXT had an interesting take on the special performance for “Frost.” The video starts with a multitude of video glitches, abnormal movements, and eerie acting from the group. They channeled their inner Joker while performing isolating choreography and raw vocals. Although the video is not directly about showcasing scary creatures or highlighting the October holiday, the way that TXT bizarrely portrays itself is enough to give you the jitters.
I hope we didn’t scare you too much! The artistry and hard work that these groups put into crazy concepts like these are amazing and hopefully, we get more of that this fall! Which group or song gets you into the Halloween mood? Let us know on Instagram and Twitter!
