Fifth-generation superstars ZEROBASEONE are back with their fourth mini-album, ‘CINEMA PARADISE.’ After setting a K-pop record for the most pre-orders with their debut and selling over a million albums for each of their previous three releases, the group is back with a new mini-album, just three months after their third mini-album, ‘You Had Me at HELLO.’ Their latest album, ‘CINEMA PARADISE,’ features tracks inspired by various movie genres. ZEROBASEONE aims to ‘eternally capture’ the cherished moments shared with ZEROSE through this release.
CINEMA PARADISE explores a range of genres, including electronic synth-pop, Afropop, pluggnB, and hip-hop. The album showcases themes of destiny and the many facets of love—recurring themes listeners have seen since their debut album, ‘YOUTH IN THE SHADE’ but presented in a more mature perspective, reflecting their growth as a group.
The tracklist consists of seven tracks, including the title track, “GOOD SO BAD,” along with “KILL THE ROMEO,” “바다 (The Sea)” (a remake of the popular summer song first released in 1997 by Korean group UP), “Insomnia,” “Road Movie,” “Eternity,” and “YURA YURA(Korean Ver.),” a Korean version of their highly successful Japanese debut released earlier this year.
The title track’s production, “GOOD SO BAD,” was created by renowned K-pop producer KENZIE, who is well-known for writing hits for groups such as Girl’s Generation, EXO, and NCT. The electronic synth-pop song features lyrics depicting the bittersweet feeling of being so in love it hurts. The music video delivers stunning visuals and a special appearance by actor Yoo Ji Tae. The song perfectly introduces the group’s more mature concept taken on with this album.
“KILL THE ROMEO” is a bold and intense take on what a love song traditionally is. The track’s high energy and aggressive beats in the chorus introduce a fresh sound for the group, perfectly complementing the lyrics’ message. The group shows a stronger, more assertive love, promising to “flip destiny” and “take their own path” if chosen by their love interest. The group vows to present exciting new adventures through their love, making “KILL THE ROMEO” a thrilling reimagining of romance.
“The Sea” is a remake of the original song released in 1997 by Korean group UP. ZEROBASEONE’s version was arranged by El Capitxn, Revin, and Vendors (Lois) and provides a modern and refreshing take on the original song while still encapsulating the fun and lightheartedness of the original. ZEROBASEONE released part of the song early with their Special Summer Video version on YouTube, highlighting joyful parts of the group’s summer activities.
“Insomnia,” one of the most eagerly awaited tracks by ZEROSE on social media, perfectly encapsulates the group’s identity. The song features bright, airy synths, shuffling rhythms, and an irresistibly catchy chorus. Each member shines in their parts, with every line feeling essential and well-placed. The track flows seamlessly, capturing the essence of the group’s signature vibe.
“Road Movie” is a genre-blending track that keeps listeners engaged, never knowing what to expect next. Combining elements of ballad, EDM, and other musical styles, the song feels like a story unfolding with each listen. The lyrics explore themes of finding new paths and pushing boundaries to achieve one’s dreams, reflecting the journey of the members and their group. It’s an ideal song for anyone seeking motivation to continue their journey in completing their goals.
“Eternity” by ZEROBASEONE is a heartfelt and passionate track exploring timeless devotion and enduring connections. The song features a blend of smooth melodies and powerful vocals, creating an atmosphere of longing and dedication. The lyrics reflect the desire for a love that lasts forever, transcending time and withstanding hardships. With its emotional depth and captivating sound, “Eternity” resonates as a powerful expression of eternal love and commitment, no matter anything standing in the way.
“YURA YURA (Korean Version)” is an upbeat and energetic track conveying the excitement and uncertainty of young love. The song reflects the emotions of being caught up in the thrill of a new relationship. With lively rhythms, catchy hooks, and playful lyrics, “Yura Yura” captures the feeling of being swept off your feet, making it a fun and vibrant anthem for anyone experiencing the highs and lows of romance.
