Beabadoobee just announced two major surprises: her upcoming album, titled ‘Pylon,’ out Sept. 18, and a world tour spanning across North America, the UK, and Europe. In an announcement via Instagram, Beabadoobee revealed her fourth album and lead single. Following her UK number 1 album, ‘This Is How Tomorrow Moves,’ ‘Pylon’ carries an even deeper meaning to Beatrice Laus.
PYLON
The album title directly draws inspiration from electricity towers, as they connect every major point in the world. The structures remind her of her friends and family due to the physical disconnection between them on tour. Despite the struggle of distance, ‘Pylon’ can be reimagined as a form of power and strength. No matter how far apart they are, they’ll always be connected. Much like real pylon structures, Beabadoobee aims to showcase her resilience, even against personal barriers. The musical engineering of all of the tracks closely mirrors the intense, edgy sounds that one may hear under a power line.
‘Pylon’s’ completed tracklist consists of 14 songs: “Pylon,” “Sun Has Set,” “Estranged,” “Switchblade,” “Write Me A Letter,” “It’s Alright,” “In Motion,” “Memories,” “Nothing to Prove,” “Radio,” “Powerlines,” “Spark,” “Despite That,” and “Satellite.” All of which tell a deeper story about Beabadoobee’s personal thoughts. The lead single, “Sun Has Set,” was released on June 24, accompanied by a music video.
SUN HAS SET
“Sun Has Set” introduces ‘Pylon’s’ essence as a set of songs serving as diary entries. Beabadoobee uses this project as an outlet to further detail the anxiety of being in your mid-twenties. “Will things be the same forever?” “Will life change for the better?” “Are they worth my time?” Beabadoobee dove deeper into these thoughts and the words she never thought she’d say out loud.
“A lot of the songs on this record are things I wish I could have said to someone,” she says. “This song has this petty tunnel vision – it’s like I hate you. “You’re going to stay here and listen to how much I hate you because I never got to say that.”
The first-person music video was directed by Beabadoobee’s longtime partner and visual collaborator, Jake Erland. The visuals perfectly complement the edgy essence that encompasses the single. Laus has always aimed to set herself apart by telling a meaningful story while exploring an edgier round. As she touches on classic grunge, 90s rock, and alternative/indie sounds, she decides to zero in on a harsher sound than her previous records. Over the years, she has drawn inspiration from artists such as Paramore’s Haley Williams, The 1975’s Matty Healy, and Deftones’ Chino Moreno.
THE POWERLINES TOUR
Beabadoobee will debut songs from ‘Pylon’ on her first-ever arena tour, the Powerlines Tour. Many stops include notable venues such as Madison Square Garden, the O2, and the Kia Forum. There are also 12 additional stops across the United Kingdom and Europe, making this her biggest tour to date. Kicking off on October 1st, the supporting acts include Wisp (U.S.) and Violet Grohl (France, Netherlands, Belgium, Germany).
Tickets will become available during the artist presale beginning on Monday, June 29, at 10 a.m. local time. General on-sale will begin on Thursday, July 2, at 10 a.m. local time.
