EVNNE, a group who gained attention after they announced their lineup mode up of popular Boys Planet contestants, has finally made their debut with their first extended play, ‘Target: ME’
“Evening’s Newest Étoiles” is a seven-member group with all the members gaining recognition for their participation in MNET’s Boys Planet 999. The members include Keita, Park Hanbin Lee Jeonghyeon, Yoo Seungeon, Ji Yunseo, Mun Junghyun, and Park Jihoo.
‘Target: ME’ provides a new perspective on what K-hip-hop and R&B can sound like. Although there are many groups who have debated this year, the songs each combine two or more genres, showcasing EVNNE as a group that has created a new style in the 5th generation of Kpop.
The group’s debut single, “Trouble,” shows a group passionate about making a difference and “shaking up the world.” With the energetic and exciting beat of the song, paired with the wild music video, EVNNE definitely leaves a lasting impression with their debut song.
“Role Model” is a song about inspiration and passion. There are many different reasons why trainees dream of being an idol, but many of them dream of following in the footsteps of the idols they would consider to be their role models. The song revolves around this idea and expresses, through a reimagined West Coast hip-hop sound, how idols often lean on each other for motivation.
If you’ve ever felt like you’ve fallen in love at first sight, “Pretty Thing” puts that feeling into song. EVNNE showcases their unique vocal abilities through the song, giving a new perspective for what a love song can sound like.
“Your Text” is a more laid-back song, expressing the impatience one feels when waiting to hear back from someone they love. EVNNE provides listeners with an experimental take on the classic love song, fitting their theme of defying genres with this groovy R&B track.
With EVNNE members, Yunseo and Jeonghyeon, participating in the writing of the song, “JUKEBOX” is a song about living in the moment and enjoying where you are currently. The playful and upbeat song gives listeners a feel-good feeling, fitting for their debut EP.
EVNNE ends the EP perfectly with “Even More,” their first song dedicated to their fans. EVNNE expresses wanting their fans to lean on them when times are hard, saying, “On your darkest days, I’ll become your brightest light.” They also thank their fans for being part of this story with them, ending ‘Target: ME’ perfectly.
