Mark proves he's a superhero and a rockstar with '200'! • POP TOKKI

Let’s rock on with NCT’s Mark with his latest release, ‘200′! After the release of Golden Hour last April 2023, ‘200’ is the next chapter as a solo artist. All this started when fans noticed that Mark made a new Instagram account, teasing new content for his single. Through this account, he shares photos and videos of himself and snippets of his music production, making fans more excited. A week ahead of its release, Mark also released an Acoustic Live Clip performance where he serenades listeners sweetly. Watch the live clip here and listen to his soothing voice:

To tease fans even further, Mark also released an adorable comic strip with lovable Spider-Man references. Because of Mark’s association with Spider-Man because of fans, Mark thought of incorporating the superhero in this solo concept. Even in past NCT content, Mark was Spider-Man in a few NCT skits like the NCIT House content. To add to that, he also dressed up as Spider-Man for the last SMTOWN Halloween 2021. Like his fans, Mark’s affinity for Spider-Man and his association with the superhero knows no bounds. So it’s a delight that he continues to indulge the fans that truly see him as Spider-Man.

The long-awaited “200” single was finally released last May 16 with a fun and eclectic music video. Similar to his music video for “Golden Hour,” there are several details and references that fans can have fun spotting. From movie references like Everything Everywhere All At Once and of course, the Spider-Man movies, Mark paid homage to these classics. The music video ties in the story elements of both movies, showing the multiverse and testing out newfound superpowers. Overall, the music video is a visual treat. Elements like comic strips and animatics add to Mark’s coming-of-age rockstar superhero storyline.

The song itself, “200” further shows Mark’s personal colors and unique music styles. To show this, Mark released two versions of his latest song, further showing his musical versatility. There is the rock-heavy version in the music video which truly shows that Mark has the makings of a rockstar. Here, the song switches from slow to fast-paced beats with an addictive guitar to compliment Mark’s powerful vocals. On the other hand, there’s the calming, acoustic version lovingly named “200 – Minhyung’s version.” This rendition has a more sentimental and romantic feel than the rock counterpart, highlighting Mark’s low-toned and soothing vocals. Both these songs perfectly express the heart of this new release, showing his continuous coming-of-age journey as an artist.

Just like the rockstar that Mark sings about, Mark himself has the voice and aura of a true rockstar. With the success of “200” and its predecessors “Child” and “Golden Hour,” Mark still has more music to share soon. In fact, he already has plans to release a full album in February 2025. Although it’s still quite far, fans can look forward to it because it will surely be worth the wait!
